First is Classic kick drum sound. This sound is produced by lips, it’s formed from a letter of B. There are many techniques to produce this sound. One of them is like you saying B, but you give hard pressure in your lips or if we use Indonesian to saying B, then heard “BE”, and now you saying it, but without E, while you say it, you tight your lips and let the pressure build up.Others techniques to produce this sound is like there’s a tobacco on your lips and you want to throw that.
Second is hi-hat sound. It’s easier than others sounds. This sound is produced by tongue and formed from a letter of t. There are two kinds of hi-hat, open hi-hat and close hi-hat. Open hi-hat is only like you saying simple t, but you just use your tongue without your throat. It’s often used to plays fast beat. And, closed hi-hat is like opened hi-hat but you give s after t, to be ts.
The last basic sound is classic snare drum. It’s tricky enough. This sound is produced by lips and formed from a letter of P. You saying P but in a hurry you continue to F, so that your upper lips cover your bottom lips. You make it while exhaling. Other technique is you include your lips to mouth, and suddenly you push out your lips, or if you still difficulty, you can trying with make a classic kick drum sound beforehand and then you add F after B, to be Bf or Pf. Other technique from snare sound which often to use with letter of K to be Kh. Different with the first, this sound produced by base tongue, so you bounce your base tongue to palate hardly, at the same time you do it while inhale.
That’s all a basic sounds of beatbox. At the beginning of your practice, you can make a pattern like this : B t Pf t B t Pf. For easier way you can practice with saying “Boots cats boots cats”, but you saying it with a little pressure.
